Local in the Know: Rhys from Opals Down Under

Tell us a secret only a local would know:

We have some of the most talented musicians and artists in Australia who play regularly… you just have to know where to find them.

What is your favourite time of year on the coast and why?

February for the hot days, stormy nights, storm swells and sweaty gigs.

What do you do to relax on the Sunshine Coast?

Go to the SolBar or any of the Open Mic Nights for a cold beer and the talent on offer.

When friends and family come and stay, what do you recommend for them to do during their stay on the Sunshine Coast?

Check out some of the live music we have on offer and come into Opals Down Under and try on all the cool jewellery we have (or for the guys, organise an opal cutting demonstration).

What is your favourite aspect about living on the coast?

From where I live, I’m basically within 15 minutes of the beach, the range and the shops.

What is your idea of a perfect day spent on the Sunshine Coast from dawn to dusk?

Bacon and eggs breakfast with my three girls, off to the beach, fish and chips down at the Spit, afternoon downtime with a movie and my girls on the couch, Thai dinner with a glass of red, girls tucked into bed (and babysat by my folks), and off to play a gig with my band (Kindread) at the SolBar, surrounded by mates and music-lovers.

What do you stock in store?

Opals Down Under has a huge range of amazing, unset opals, opal jewellery, semi-precious gemstones, fossils and more.

What is the most popular range in your shop?

Right now, Silver Opal Jewellery is VERY popular, particularly styles with Boulder or Black Opals with blue tones.
