Review - The Water

pepper - may 17

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT it was musically possible for Australia’s favourite summertime soundtrack (aka San Cisco) to turn up the heat and intensify their hooks? You better believe it, because the four-piece band has just dropped their latest album, The Water, and it’s nothing shy of a perfect soundtrack for the ultimate pool party.

Long-time pals from Western Australia - Josh, Scarlett, Jordi and Nick - are still the same fun, relatable band we know and love, however this time around San Cisco presents a more diverse sound over 10 tracks offering all kinds of vibes from '80s infused cheesiness to catchy funk-pop and splendid synth riffs with psychedelic waves throughout.

The biggest differences are evident in Did You Get What You Came For and The Distance honing in on thought-provoking lyrics.

While Hey, Did I Do You Wrong? and Kids Are Cool keep the carefree vibes addressing everyday topics of friendships and love.

Then there are the '80s disco-inspired tracks like SloMo and Make Me Electrify which take San Cisco’s signature happy-go-lucky feels to a whole new level.

Overall, it’s exactly what you would expect from the indie-pop rockers and more - short and sweet with a few funky twists.

So get out your most tropical swimsuit and tie up your goggles because we reckon The Water will be bomb diving into stereos on repeat from here on out.

Available on iTunes for $16.99.
