Six Senses

six senses of autumn 2009

autumn 09

salt takes a fresh approach to the powers that we humans use to experience the world. We look at items that invoke us to see, hear, smell, taste and touch. We have also thrown in a sense of our own to the standard five … feel.

FOR THOSE THAT ARE visually challenged, next time you reach for your spectacles try these hand-made, French-designed reading glasses known as ‘Filao face-a-main’ which translates to ‘Face to hand’. This stylish product won an innovation award at the 2008 Paris Optical show. For $190, they are exclusively available at Walker & Beck, Shop 1, Sempre on Sunshine, 28 Duke Street, Sunshine Beach, 5474 9054.

THE TASTE OF LEMON CURD on toast is a long-forgotten treat. Try the Pure Greed’s fresh lemon curd made using Meyer lemons, butter and sugar. The tartness of the lemon against the buttery undertones is what makes this curd so irresistible. A 270g jar is $12.80. Available at Australian tru blue, which specialises in Australian boutique produce, Shop 2/3 Bulcock Street, Caloundra, 5438 0035.

THIS FABULOUS GEM of an Australian film, Lucky Miles, breaks all the rules of political correctness and achieves a touch of mischief unseen before on our screens. As we follow a group of illegal refugees stranded on the coastline of Western Australia, without another human being in sight, the film finds humour in their plight and pokes fun at Australia and its inhabitants.

With our unique sense of humour and ability to reflect on the hilarity of our own culture, this movie is sure to tickle the senses and leave you with a lingering smile.
P.S. Look out for the enormous goanna.

"The morning wind spreads its fresh smell.
We must get up and take that in, that wind that lets us live.
Breathe, before it's gone"
